Done With Netflix

February 20th, 2006

I’ve burned myself out on Netflix and I’ve only had it a month and a half. Turns out I’m not really all that into movies. Sure, I like a few (12 Monkeys, Mulholland Drive, American Beauty, anything with a zombie in it…) but I don’t like a whole lot of movies. And if I’m looking to get really into the Criterion collection, I can rent them for free from the Oak Park Library.

But the two real reasons I’m getting rid of Netflix are the following:

  1. I hate having a queue of anything, and I don’t need an unattended and accusing pile of DVDs sitting on top of my TV. With all the things I’m behind on in life, I certainly don’t need to be behind on watching TV. This is also why I won’t get a DVR.
  2. watching movies at home isn’t that exciting to begin with, and having them show up in your mail makes it even less of an event. In this one instance, I actually like the inconvenience of going to the local video joint, loading up on root beer and snacks, and picking a movie to take home. At least it’s kinda like an evening out if you make a trip for the movie.
