Devendra Banhart @ Logan Square

October 25th, 2005

This was a great show, despite the opening band “Bunny Brains” being among the 5 worst bands I’ve ever seen. And it was an entertaining show if for no other reason than for people-watching. In my daily travels, I tend to see a lot of the same types of folks. People I meet through work look a lot alike. People I see at concerts all look similar. But not this concert. This was a whole room of folsk that I might not come across anywhere else in my life. Reminded me that I need to get outside my comfort zone more often.

Devendra played a great set, and at one point asked if anyone in the crowd wrote their own songs. Of course, plenty of folks did – and Devendra invited a young man up to play one of his songs for the crowd. It wasn’t much of a song, but the crowd was supportively anyhow. And that sorta set the tone for the night – people out to share a show together without any pretensions.
